The intermixing of yin and yang, together, allow life to thrive.  In living beings we see the descension of celestial energy and the ascension of the terrestrial energy exhibited by the channels themselves - yin channels ascending, yang channels descending.  This is the Tai Ji Tu.  http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/21/Esoteric_Taijitu.svg/463px-Esoteric_Taijitu.svg.png

Yet yang's nature is to ascend, yin's nature is to descend.  So in biota, living things, we see the opposite happening.  Until there is disease.

The separation of yin & yang ultimately points to death.  Yin returns to the earth, and yang to the heavens.

I have heard this phrase mentioned in the context of both tongue and pulse diagnosis and am looking for some clarification on what this "separation" actually means. I am having a hard time imagining a separation of complimentary opposites occurring in nature.

Nature evolves.
Is nature God.
Mankind evolves.
Is mankind natural?

Does God evolve?

Yesterday after class the thought of humans being cancer on the earth was mentioned.
I know I don't think of cancer as a cause, as much as a reaction to a energetic situation,
and started wondering what energetic situation exists on earth with we humans now?
Is it a mismatch of stems and branches guest and host energy?
How much of it can we consciously take a part in our future?

I started reading the book 'Beyond Civilization' by Daniel Quinn (Ishmael).
And again came across the idea of a Meme, which is a cultural gene.
It made me curious about the Yuan chi of the biota..  or DNA isn't that dissimilar from apes or as far as building blocks tofu.
So is there a larger inherent code and direction we are headed in?
Would it be too much of a stretch to bring in ideas like virtue and the tao and how it effects such a strata?

I am curious of all your thoughts, please share

swk

Ling Shu ch.IX p.4

1. When Renying is more rapid than Mai Kou, disperse Zu Shaoyang (GB) and tonify Zu Jueyin (li)...

4. When Mai Kou is more rapid than Renying, disperse Zu Jueyin (Li) and tonify Zu Shaoyang (GB)...

This appears to be a way to maintain yin-yang  int/ext relationships.

and

p.5

N.V.N. shows this is done by picking tonification points on one channel and dispersion point on its pair.

Ling Shu ch.XXXIV p.2

II. N.V.N.
This paragraph explains the technique of using the Wu Shu points (the five shu-antique points) in the treatment of the Five Problems, in particular the Ying-spring and the Shu-stream points on the Yin and Yang channels in accordance with the Five Movements and the Four Seasons. The problems cited in this thirty-fourth chapter are of endogenous origin (energetic disruptions).
1. For disruptions in the Heart energy (Fire-Heat), puncture the Shu-Yuan (Humdity-Earth) points on Shou Shaoyin (He) and Shou Jueyin (XB) (to temper them), which are Shenmen (He 7) and Daling (XB 7)...

p.3 indicates a difference between "tonifying - conducting essential energy, dispersing - conducting perverse energy" with it's application to "rebel energy" and "treatment of excess or deficiency of Water-Grains (Shui Gu)."

obviously there is no such thing as 'too much health in the body'
but here an "excess of water-grains" is talked about, and "treating disruptions of the fire-heat of heart by using the mother son relationship of humidity-earth to temper it"

This chapter has made me look deeper into a possible differences between dispersing and sedating.  I am seeking more information about how the body uses 'sedation points' to maintain auto regulation. And if we are encouraging natural body function, how we might employ them when appropriate.

A necessary distinction, thank you.

I actually stopped posting because I always feel I come with so many inaccurate ideas.. and I still haven't absorbed all that has been posted as a response...
I can't wait to read your book on curious things.
